BIC gets ready for Porsche GT3 challenge

ManamaBahraini racing drivers completed testing of their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars as BIC gets ready for season eight of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East this Thursday to Saturday.

Testing featured 17 drivers in total including a strong Bahraini trio of Shaikh Hamad Al Khalifa, Shaikh Isa A.Al Khalifa and Shaikh Isa S. Al Khalifa.

“It’s good to be back on track amongst friends and so many new faces. I don’t know that many of them which is all part of the challenge and should make some open races,” Shaikh Hamad said after testing.

The two-days of testing gave the drivers valuable laps ahead of this weekend’s opening round, as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) finale.

Nearly half the drivers lined up for the first round will be new to the grid which should produce a very open championship.

“I am very thankful and pleased to have such support in Bahrain for this championship. This is our home and I feel very proud that Bahrain has three drivers competing and with the large grid a perfect blend of experience and young talent, coming from both within the region and internationally,” Founder, Organizer and motorsport legend Walter Lechner said.

The opening round of the six-round championship features two races with the first on Friday night under the BIC lights and the second on Saturday before the World Endurance Championship Six Hours of Bahrain and season finale.

Five further rounds are scheduled in Dubaim next month and January, February in Abu Dhabi and the fifth and sixth rounds back in Bahrain in March and April.
