Commercialisation of residential areas to be reconsidered

ManamaPrime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has directed authorities to reconsider allowing commercial streets in residential areas.

The move followed complaints filed by residents regarding noise pollution and traffic congestion in their localities.

The Prime Minister instructed  the concerned authorities to study the issue as well as related regulations on  turning streets into commercial facilities. The PM was speaking while chairing the weekly Cabinet session.

The Premier also asked the authorities to look into the requirements for building multi-storey buildings in residential neighbourhoods.

This is in line with the proposal submitted by the Council of Representatives,  Cabinet Secretary-General Dr. Yasser bin Isa Al Naser said in a statement following the session.

Health Training

The Premier directed the Health Ministry to hold annual training sessions for 30 volunteers from each governorate on first-aid.

The training courses, proposed by the Council of Representatives, aim to raise the citizens’ awareness on the importance of first-aid in saving lives during
emergency situations.

Education

With regard to education, the session referred reports issued by the Education and Training Quality Authority (ETQA) for study. This was based on the presentation made to the Supreme Council for the Development of Education and Training by the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunication and Deputy ETQA Board Chairman.

The PM commended the role of the private higher education institutions and universities in supporting the government’s policies to prepare highly qualified candidates.

The Cabinet also discussed other proposals including the allocation of a housing project to villagers of North Sehla, Abu Quwa, Jablat Habshi and neighbouring regions, deportation of foreigners involved in cases of indecency following their trial and the rehabilitation of volunteers to carry out first-aid in emergency cases.
