Murder of roommate: Case adjourned

ManamaThe High Criminal Court adjourned the case of a Nigerian man accused of murder until November 27 to assign a lawyer for him.

The man reportedly strangled a fellow inmate to death following a brawl, in a Psychiatric Hospital, according to court files.

The defendant, a Nigerian, was kept in an observation room with the victim, a Bahrain citizen, when the incident occurred. The murder  reportedly took place at around 5:30 in the morning on June 7, 2016. A nurse, who tried to save the victim was also attacked in the process.

Other nurses, who arrived at the scene, later controlled the man and tried to revive the victim. He was declared dead after 25-minutes.

“The defendant was facing huge mental pressure, and avoided everybody. He even tried to commit suicide on multiple occasions,” a nurse serving in the hospital told prosecutors. She also added that the condition of the defendant had improved over time.

The defendant was sent to the hospital after he got implicated in a robbery case, where he was caught stealing mobiles from a hotel where he  served as a security man.

A medical panel which probed the incident eventually announced the defendant wasn’t having major mental disorders and was aware of everything.
