RBH hosts Advanced Critical Care Nutrition course

Manama : Royal Bahrain Hospital (RBH) in association with Critical Care Educational Support Professionals (CCESP) successfully hosted the Advanced Critical Care Nutrition Course (ACCN) last week at Novotel Dana Resort, in line with its initiative of providing Continuing Medical Education (CME) to medical professionals,

The course was held under the patronage of Dr. Aisha Buanq, Undersecretary, Ministry of Health and was attended by critical care physicians, senior nurses, dieticians, pharmacists and medical professionals in the field of nutrition from Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.  

The two-day event was designed by Dr. Khaled Al Sewafie, Course Director and Dr. Tariq AlMusawi, Course Chairman. It was supported by Frezenius Kabi and Nestle Health Science.  

Citing the importance of nutrition during critical care, Dr. Sheriff Sahadulla, Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer at RBH, said: “Nutrition is a vital component to recovery of any patient. This is especially true in patients in the ICU. Nutrition is needed for wound healing, improving the immune system and to prevent the wasting of muscles amongst other things. RBH is honored to partner with CCESP in bringing a heightened awareness of this critical aspect of patient care to healthcare professionals from around the GCC.”  

Talking on a different note, Dr. Khaled Sewafie, Course Director, said: “Through ACCN we expect to equip clinicians better assess, monitor and optimise nutrition for critically ill patients. The attendees will learn how to be experts in both enteral and parenteral nutrition.

The course was conducted through eight online lectures and 17 live lectures by professionals from the sector.
