Khalid bin Hamad Theatre fest beckons aficionados

ManamaMinister of Youth and Sports Affairs Hisham Al Jowder inaugurated the Khalid bin Hamad Theatre festival yesterday. The ceremony was attended by a number of ministry officials, senior intellectuals and theatre enthusiasts.

It was inaugurated on behalf of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth & Sports and President of Bahrain Athletics Association.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Media Office of Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, with the slogan #Painting_A_Smile, at Isa Town Cultural and Sports Club Hall. It will continue until November 27.

Al Jowder said that holding the festival for the second time in a row comes under the cultural initiatives of Shaikh Khalid to support youth in various fields.

Operetta, plays and more

A special operetta was presented during the opening ceremony at Isa Town Cultural and Sports Club Hall.

The organising committee  stated it was keen on embodying the message of the festival in the operetta, as part of making the second edition of the award distinct and special.

The play “Marwas,” directed by Al Bassam bin Ali, was the first show of the festival. It was the debut show by East Riffa Youth Centre. 

The cast of the play includes Mohammed Saqer, Ahmed Al Sada, Mohammed Shaheen, Nasreen Sharif, Ahmed Rasheed, Fahad Al Ziri, Abullah Al Hamar, Aysha Al Maradi.

The scenography (décor, additions and effect) was handled by Al Bassam Ali while the music was composed by oud player Abdul Rahman Turki. Ali Al Awadhi, Salim Yousif, Jassim Abdulrahman and Dalal Abdulrahman handled live vocals.

After the play concluded, Jamal Al Saqer conducted a review session, where in he analysed the play and listened to the opinions and views of the audience.
