Lavaud clinches Super Singles titles
Manama : Frenchman Eric Lavaud clinched the Men’s Super Singles title in straight sets winning 6-3, 6-1 against Filipino Janji Soquino as the 30th GPIC Tennis Championships concluded on Thursday night at the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) premises in Juffair.
Lavaud had an epic giant-killing run as he knocked out top seed Yousif Qaed 6-3, 6-0 in the quarter finals and then fourth seed Hassan Abdul Redha 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 in the semi-finals. Soquino made it to the final with a 6-0, 6-3 quarter final win against Abdul Rahman Janahi 6-0, 6-3 and then Karim Abdul Redha in the semi-finals 6-3, 7-5.
Prior to the final, in an all-Filipino Veterans Men’s 45 years and Over, top seed Ronaldo Anacin easily defeated second seed Norman Abastillas 6-0, 6-1. The finals were attended by the patron of the tournament, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery President of Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, Khalid Abdul Aziz Al Khayyat from the Public Security Sports Association, Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, Khamis Al Muqla, BTC President and other officials.
