Workshop on domestic violence on November 22

ManamaA three-day training workshop titled “domestic violence in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries: its causes, impacts and prevention” will be organised by the Gulf Sociologists Association. The event will be held in collaboration with Bahrain Sociologists Society in Manama from November 22 to 24.

Dr. Widad Al-Essa from Kuwait will  expound on various themes regarding the concept of domestic violence, its causes, impacts and community cohesion during the workshop. “Discussion will focus on the phenomenon,  and the contributions of academic research centres in tackling domestic violence,” said Bushra Matar, the Workshop’s general coordinator.

Besides, the workshop will review the role of modern media and communication to address domestic violence. Gulf and international legislations and laws concerning domestic violence will be discussed.

Explaining, she said that the workshop comes as part of a series of planned activities organised by the Gulf Sociologists Association. 

It also focuses on the implementation of the strategic plan of the executive committee which was formed to follow up, organise and coordinate functions of the GCC sociologists societies.
