Two traffic policemen jailed for forging reports

ManamaTwo traffic policemen were sentenced to seven and five years imprisonment by the Fourth Supreme Criminal Court yesterday after they were found guilty of counterfeiting traffic accidents reports.

The defendants had counterfeited two traffic accidents reports to claim money from an insurance company, according to court files.

“Six defendants, including two traffic policemen, were found guilty of fraud and counterfeiting traffic accidents reports,” said Capital Prosecution Head Hussain Al Zamil. The other defendants received twelve years of imprisonment.

Al Zamil explained that “a representative from the company filed a complaint to the General Directorate of Traffic, regarding suspicions over the whereabouts of both accidents”.

He said that the policemen “faked the accidents” in the reports they issued, so that the other defendants, including the owner of the vehicle, could claim the money from the insurance company.

“The Public Prosecution had earlier detained the defendants and interrogated them before they were referred to the criminal court, which announced its sentences yesterday,” Al Zamil added.
