Authorities slammed as rains wreak havoc

ManamaA Bahraini MP yesterday slammed the authorities negligence for not containing the issue of rainwater flooding in the Kingdom, which has now become an annual issue.

MP Ali Al Ateesh strongly criticised the recurrence of  rainwater flooding in Bahrain saying that it reflects on our weak infrastructural facilities.

“We repeatedly see the statements of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry, claiming that they are taking early procedures to contain this matter. But once the country witnesses even a small downpour, we see the effect of such claimed preparations. The problem is recurring and we see swamps and pools forming across the Kingdom,” Al Ateesh stated. He said that the amount of rains witnessed by Bahrain in the past two days were not big, but drowned many areas on the island.

“These statements we hear from officials about preparing for the rainy season are only media stunts.

What will happen to our country if we had rains all around the year,” Al Ateesh questioned.

He further pointed out that other countries which witness heavier rainfall than Bahrain are successfully containing the issue.

“The recurrence of this problem here shows that we’re not serious about containing this matter. Floods reported at newly constructed areas every year proves this,” he said.
