Oil refinery catches fire: No injuries reported
Manama : A fire was reported at the country’s main oil refinery in the industrial area near Ma’ameer village yesterday.
Eyewitnesses reported flames to be seen from a distance at the facility, which operates under Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco).
However, a representative from the company confirmed that “it was a small fire accident that caused no casualties”.
The representative also said that the fire occurred at one of the gas units at the refinery and that the unit has been shutdown for a while as maintenance works are taking place. No further comments were available.
This is the second fire to occur at an oil facility in 24 hours, the previous one being at a gas pump in Al Qara area. The Ministry has launched a probe into the incident.
