Mattar, Buhindi triumph in karting

ManamaMohamed Mattar and Abdulla Buhindi overcame wet conditions to clinch top prizes in the latest round of the 2016/2017 Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship (BKSC), held this past weekend at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) in Sakhir.

Mattar won the season’s second race in the Bahrain Rotax Mojo Max Championship (BRMMC) while Buhindi claimed the coveted victory in round four of the Bahrain SWS Sprint Championship (SWS).

In the BRMMC, which is a championship for Rotax kart owners, Mattar was one of seven drivers vying for the win in the 15-lap final in 19 minutes 29.934 seconds. Second place went Hussain Hassan (+35.949) behind the winner, with Khaled Alsaei (+42.388) claiming the final podium place with Ali Baslar and Khalifa Al Yaqoobi completed the top five in the BRMMC’s Max class.

Mohamed Faqihi won the Max Masters division while Sulaiman Alkanderi was in the Max Juniors but was not classified after completing just five laps in the Final.

Mattar had earlier clinched pole position for the decisive race after winning the Pre-Final.

Meanwhile, in the SWS, a national championship arrive-and-drive class, Buhindi also enjoyed a comfortable victory, but was not as dominant as Mattar.

There were 13 karters in all competing, each of whom were driving identical Sodikarts provided for by BIKC.

Buhindi (24:25.078) completed the 15-lap Final final ahead of Rashid Khalifa (+18.871) in second with Mohammed Abdulaziz (+28.452) claiming the final podium place.
