Case of missing Bahraini detainee under investigation
Manama : The alleged case of disappearance of a Bahraini detainee is under investigation, according to the General Secretariat of the Ombudsman.
According to reports, 43-year-old Sayed Alawi was claimed to be missing since October 24. However, no further details were available on the whereabouts of the man.
The Secretariat said in a recent statement posted on its official Instagram page that “it had received a complaint from the detainee’s wife about his disappearance”, without mentioning his name or age.
“The necessary procedures were taken in relation to the complaint and ensuring his legal rights,” the statement mentioned.
“Coordination with the related authorities showed that he was arrested as per the protection of the society from terrorist acts law. His detention was ordered by the Terror Crimes Prosecution,” the statement added.
Formed in July, 2013, as per Royal Decree 27 of 2012 and its amendments, the General Secretariat of the Ombudsman has been tasked to receive oral or written complaints from anybody who claims to have sustained a sinful (incriminating) act.
