A Bangladeshi national was crushed to death when a wall near a building site collapsed and fell on him in Adilya near Sea Shell hotel at 8.30 am.
Three labourers were working at the building site when the wall collapsed. While two of them escaped without any injuries, the third person reportedly died within a few minutes after the accident, despite attempts by co-workers to rescue him.
An Adilya resident told DT News, "They were leveling the ground when the mishap occured. I think the pressure applied on the ground destabilized the already-shaky building.”
“Two of them saw the wall falling and quickly ran away from it but the third one was too close the wall that he could not get away on time," he added.
According to sources, the authorities inspected the wall after the incident and deemed it structural weak.
"Officials from the ministries visited the site and concluded the wall was too weak to withstand any construction works in its vicinity. The construction company officilas should have checked the condition of the surrounding buildings before issuing the work order," the source said.
