Ironman representatives arrive in Bahrain

ManamaRepresentatives from the International Ironman Organisation arrived in Bahrain to oversee the ongoing preparations for the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship, scheduled for this Saturday under the patronage of Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

Amal Al Murbati, member of the Organising Committee and board member of Bahrain Events Company, affirmed that the representatives sent by the Ironman Organisation have been tasked to ensure that the event meets international standards and that the Organising Committee members are prepared to hold it.  The event will be supported by two events, including Ironkids and IronGirl.

Al Murbati said that the main aim of holding them is to highlight the importance of practicing sports to children and girls, with the main focus on the health side of it.

“We have invited two-time world champion Daniela Ryf to attend and cheer the participants in the IronGirl as we are keen to see a large pool of participants taking part and encourage women to practice this type of sports,” she added.

The event will also serve as a platform to raise awareness on the rich Bahraini traditions and cultures to those from outside the country.

And according to Al Murbati, the Organising Committee coordinated with the Tourism Authourity to showcase some aspects of the Bahraini traditions at the BIC.

On the sidelines of the event, the organising committee will be launching an expo on Thursday featuring triathlon equipment used in the Ironman championships and represents an opportunity to acquire the tools considered to be one of the main parts of this sport.

With a large expectation of attracting many triathlon enthusiasts, the expo will be held throughout the championship at BIC and on the same day also, Ironkids and IronGirl events will be held at 6pm and 7:00pm respectively at BIC.
