Dr. Jawahery named GPCA Fertiliser committee Chairman

ManamaGulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery has been elected Chairman of the Fertilisers Committee of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA).

Dr. Jawahery, who heads the International Fertiliser Industry Association (IFA) and the Arab Fertiliser Association (AFA), is a Board Member of the GPCA.

In a statement, Dr. Jawahery thanked GPCA Chairman Yousef Abdullah Al Benyan, Secretary General Dr. Abdulwahab Al Sadoun and its Board of Directors for their support and assistance and for having faith in his capabilities.

Commenting, Dr. Jawahery said he would work towards further developing the GPCA, especially in the light of the great development witnessed by the industry in general and the Gulf Arab region.

In spite of the availability of natural and human resources and all the political attention, Dr. Jawahery said the region was not able to achieve production targets and meet growing needs for food.

Talking about the GPCA’s important role, Dr. Jawahery said the senior management of the world’s fertiliser industry should work together to bring about a culture of work safety and in creating a better production environment.

The GPCA was launched in 2006 as a union of petrochemical and chemical producers in the GCC. Member companies collectively contribute more than 95 per cent of the total production of chemicals in the Arab Gulf states. This sector is presently the second largest industrial sector in the region, with products annually reaching $108 billion.
