Stealing handbag; Jail terms reduced
Manama : Two men convicted of theft have had their jail terms slashed on appeal. The duo was charged for stealing the handbag of a British woman in Juffair on June 13 last year.
The suspects, aged 31 and 38, who were serving as security officers, reportedly attacked the victim from behind and snatched her bag that had BD10 in cash and an iPhone. Though the woman suffered bruises, she was the key to solving the case.
According to court files, her phone had an application installed to give away the location of the phone in case it went missing or was stolen. She used the application that led her to phone that was found on display at a mobile phone shop.
“When I met the owner of the shop, I requested from him the CPR copy of the person who sold the phone. I took it to the police,” the woman stated.
The suspects were initially handed down five years in prison. However the High Criminal Appeals Court reduced it to three years.
