Philippines crowned champions

ManamaThe Filipino Community Volleyball Team in the Kingdom were declared the Champions of the first ASEAN Volleyball Tournament held at the Muharraq Gym.

The Philippine team won both men and women’s championships, while the second and third places went to the teams of Thailand and Indonesia respectively.

A total of one hundred eight players from the ASEAN Communities of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines in Bahrain participated.

This event, organised by the Malaysian Embassy, aimed to foster unity and camaraderie among the ASEAN communities in Bahrain.  It is part of the series of “ASEAN Games 2016.”

Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa attended the event as the tournament’s guest of honour. Foreign Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for the GCC and Western Countries Affairs Dr. Dhafer Al-Omran and Assistant Undersecretary for Arab and Afro-Asian Affairs and Organisations Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa Al Khalifa also attended the awarding ceremony.
