Court upholds drug peddler’s sentence

Manama

The High Criminal Appeals Court has upheld the 10-year jail term of two persons convicted of paddling drugs. The 24-year-old first accused was promoting and selling hashish, and his crime came to the fore following a tip off to the anti-narcotics department.

An undercover agent contacted and lured him into selling BD350 worth of hashish.  The was reportedly arrested with BD400, three pieces of hashish and two cigarettes stuffed with the drug.

The second convict, aged 28, was apprehended after the first accused told prosecutors it was the former who supplied him the drugs.  Police raided the second accused’s house and uncovered more hashish. Both of the accused were also fined BD5000 each.

In a separate case, the High Criminal Court slapped another Bahraini drug peddler with 10 years behind bars and BD5000 fine. A second person was also involved in the case and charged with drug abuse.

The second accused was arrested in a sting operation by an officer in plain clothes, following a tip off to the anti-narcotic department. Following the arrest, he told police he received the drugs from the first accused and lead police to the peddler.

Judges at the High Criminal Court sentenced him to one year behind bars along with a fine BD1000.
