Summit for unity

ManamaThe 37th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)  Summit which opens today in Bahrain will pave way for further boosting GCC unity and development march, said Saudi Ambassador to Bahrain, yesterday. 

Dr. Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al Al Shaikh also expressed confidence that the summit will produce tangible results in enhancing joint Arabian Work in areas including politics, defence, economic cooperation as well as social and cultural aspects. 

He also pointed out that security will be at the top of priorities in this summit in a  move aimed at combating terrorism and extremism. 

“In this regard, the Gulf countries have signed security agreements with many superpowers,” he added.

“GCC leaders will also take resolutions that support previous resolutions to tackle the core challenges and risks,” said the Ambassador.

The Summit will see the Arab and Gulf leaders discussing regional and international issues, as well as joint efforts to fulfil Gulf cohesion and cooperation on the different levels.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is on a regional tour, arrived in Qatar yesterday ahead of the summit. After Qatar, he will travel on to Kuwait and Bahrain. 

 

Shaikh Sabah to head Kuwait’s official delegation

The Amir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah will be leading Kuwait’s official delegation to attend the 37th GCC Summit. 

Oman Deputy PM to head Sultanate’s delegation 

On behalf of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Omani Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said will head the Sultanate’s delegation to participate in the 37th GCC Summit in Bahrain.

The deputy prime minister will be accompanied by a delegation comprising Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Oil and Gas Minister Dr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhi, and Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Dr. Fuad bin Jafar Al Sajwani. The delegation also includes several officials, according to Oman News Agency (ONA).

 

Shaikh Mohammed to lead UAE delegation 

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum will lead his country’s delegation to the 37th GCC Summit. 

The UAE news agency (WAM) said that Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum would head today morning to the Kingdom of Bahrain to attend the two-day summit. 

 

Shaikh Tamim will lead Qatar’s delegation

The Amir of Qatar Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will lead his country’s delegation to the 37th GCC Summit. The Qatar News Agency (QNA) said that Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani would head to Bahrain to attend the two-day summit.

May seeks deeper ties

British Prime Minister Theresa May, visiting the Gulf for the first time since she came to office in July, will also attend the two-day GCC summit. 

She will be the first UK prime minister and female politician to attend the six-nation Gulf Co-operation Council.

The prime minister will attend a dinner with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman today evening, before addressing the plenary session on Wednesday morning.

She will announce a space technology tie-up with Abu Dhabi and a new multiple five-year visa entry system for UK firms doing business in Saudi Arabia.

“There is so much we can do together - whether it is helping one another to prevent terrorist attacks, Gulf investment regenerating cities across the UK or British businesses helping Gulf countries to achieve their long-term vision of reform,” May said.

“So I hope my visit will herald the start of a new chapter in relations between the United Kingdom and the Gulf.”
