Gulf Hotels Group bids farewell to Aqeel Raees
Manama : The Gulf Hotels Group held a farewell reception in honour of Aqeel Raees who retired from his position as Chief Executive Officer, after over 42 years of service with the group. The farewell reception was held on 29 November 2016 at Al Dana Ballroom in Gulf Convention Centre and attended by a number of senior officials & Businessman.
Thanking Raees for the rapid changes Gulf Hotel saw under his leadership, Mohamed Hussain Yateem, Director and Chairman of the Board Executive Committee of the Gulf Hotels Group said, “Aqeel’s hard work and experience led to his promotion to the position of CEO in 2002. The Gulf Hotel became the Gulf Hotel Group.The turnover increased by 145 per cent. Our net profits increased by 260pc or 18.6pc annually.” He also pointed that the Group’s plans for the Dubai operation is on track.
“Aqeel had a major role in achieving all this performance. As a result, the Gulf Hotel Group today manages five properties with the sixth on the way and inshallah soon we will see some of our restaurants being franchised outside of Bahrain.
“Internationally Aqeel was recognised for his leadership qualities when he was awarded world hotels Leadership Award 2013,” said Yateem.
Raees began his career with Bahrain Petroleum Company “Bapco” as Clerk in the Accounting Department. He stint with Bapco continued for about 10 years. He then moved on to join the hospitality and tourism sector, when he joined the Gulf Hotel in 1974. He is married to Faeqa Al Khaja and has four children. Two them are doctors, Mazen and Ayman, and others are Lawyers, Nezar and Dana, by profession.
