While people are changing their display pictures on social networks with colourful themes, as part of the “gay pride mainstream” that followed the US Supreme Court’s supportive rule to gay marriage, a parliamentarian in Bahrain called for the deportation of transgenders working in the country.
MP Jamal Dawood submitted a proposal yesterday that obliges employers who recruited transgenders to immediately cancel their work permits and send them back to where they came from.
While speaking to DT News yesterday, Dawood explained that his proposal comes after receiving numerous complaints from citizens of both genders, who expressed their irritation from the “bizarre phenomenon” that invaded the Bahraini society lately.
“It has nothing to do with individual liberty. Each person should respect the beliefs and traditions of the societies they live in. They could be whoever they want to be in their personal lives, but they should commit to the doctrines of the Bahraini society the moment they leave their residences,” Dawood stressed.
He commented, “Nowadays, people are shocked to realise that saleswomen in some of the shops are actually men with makeup applied on and wearing women accessories and colognes. You can’t tell man from the woman anymore. It’s simply rejected and unacceptable in our society.”
The MP said, “We must commit to the second and fifth articles of the constitution and protect our societies from behavioural abnormalities and moral deterioration. Employers should verify nature of their employees before contracting with them. They’re also responsible for the prevention of such phenomena and the protection of our conservative society.”
Dawood demanded to hold employers and recruitment agencies responsible for bringing this “unwelcomed category of employment” into Bahrain.
