Interesting traffic violations recorded

ManamaA number of traffic violations, apart from speeding, has been caught using the new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras installed on Bahrain roads.

The sudden application of brakes on a highway, pedestrians crossing, and workers travelling in back of an open truck were some of the violations identified, authorities revealed.

“Though the new traffic monitoring cameras in Bahrain have succeeded in reigning in those who speed and endanger their lives and others, they have also detected other forms of violations on the roads,” Interior Ministry said in its Al Amn publication.

“We are taking action against all violators and are also engaged in educating road users on safe driving and safe behaviour,” said General Directorate of Traffic Culture Director Lieutenant Colonel Osama Bahar.

He also cautioned pedestrians against recklessly crossing major highways in the face of oncoming high-speed traffic thereby endangering their lives.

“Such behaviour also puts the lives of unsuspecting drivers at risk. This is particularly rampant near Isa Town’s Educational Area, where students are seen running across the highway and climbing over the high fence on the divider,” he said.

The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras were first activated on June 11 and 66 speeding drivers were referred to the Public Prosecution in the first month, the Ministry added.
