Batelco make a clean sweep
Manama : Batelco made a clean sweep in the second round of the 2016/2017 Bahrain SWS Endurance Championship, held at Bahrain International Karting Circuit (BIKC) in Sakhir.
They took all podium positions in the final overall classification of the three-hour challenge, and also claimed first place in each of the three categories.
Headlining the victorious Batelco campaign was the Batelco Drag 965 Racing duo of Mohammed Mattar and Khaled Alsaie, who clinched first place overall and also won the Pro class.
Batelco Drag 965 Mechanics duo Rashid Almuammari and Hussain Hassan then triumphed in the Nations category, while sister squad Ithmaar Batelco Corporate comprising Ali Baslar and Khalid Alwazzan were first in their class.
Each of those three teams also made up the overall podium, with Mattar and Alsaei in first place after completing a total of 128 laps.
They finished 7.435 seconds ahead of runners-up Almuammari and Hassan, while Baslar and Alwazzan +31.246) were third overall.
In the Pro class, Mattar and Alsaie completed their double ahead of Zain Racing’s Raed Raffii and Mohammed Abdulaziz. In third place were the Al Najma Karting Team duo of Ahmed Ebrahim and Mohammed Ameen.
BIKC’s 1.414-kilometre Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK) track hosted an all action packed grid of 19 teams with each competing in identical 390cc RT9 Sodikarts.
In the Nations category, Almuammari and Hassan were the winners, finishing ahead of Zain Dangerous who were composed of Khaled Abdulla and Khalifa Al Yaqoobi. In third were Ice Racing’s Ali Dadi and Ahmed Kooheji.
In the Corporate class, Baslar and Alwazzan were first. Faisal Al Shafei and Osama Albuflasa of BBK Racing were second, and BBK Online were third with Nasser Al Alawi, Hamad Mattar and Ahmed Naqi.
Following the second round, the Bahrain SWS Endurance now heads towards the season’s third and final event, which will be a 24-hour race scheduled to take place on January 27 and 28 next year.
