Joint GCC effort urged

Abu DhabiRobust educational programmes are required to support the region’s youth, said Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister  HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday, while urging joint GCC effort in this regard. 

This would help the Gulf Corporation Council nations in achieving its development targets, Prince Salman added. 

The Crown Prince was visiting the Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi. He is in Abu Dhabi to participate in the FIKR 15 Conference organised by the Arab Thought Foundation in partnership with the Arab League. The Crown Prince earlier participated in a plenary session held as part of the conference. 

Highlighting the importance of sustaining, modern education system which fosters innovation, creativity, Prince Salman praised the University’s efforts in responding and reforming its education system based on evolving trends.

His Royal Highness then highlighted the University’s significant achievements since its establishment in 2007, including patents and specialised research centres. 

In this regard, the Crown Prince underlined the support by the leadership of the UAE headed by Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to further strengthen the country’s position as a sustainable technology-based economy.

Khalifa University’s Executive Director, Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi briefed on the strategic plans and goals that the University are seeking to achieve.

Close cooperation 

Separately, the Crown Prince visited the headquarters of the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC).

During the tour, Prince Salman said the GCC countries must continue to prioritise close cooperation to advance urban development. 

He also stressed that GCC should closely align on urban development policies to ensure that plans are carried out in accordance with best international practices. 

Addressing Bahrain’s sustainable infrastructure development, Crown Prince highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to accelerate urban development plans to meet the strategic goals of Economic Vision 2030.

In this regard, Prince Salman highlighted His Majesty’s decrees that established the Higher Urban Planning Committee and the Strategic Structural Plan, whilst preserving Bahrain’s rich cultural heritage.

The Crown Prince went on to praise the architectural achievements of the UAE, noting that they have greatly contributed to the GCC’s reputation as a hub for modern design and infrastructure.
