One nation spirit

Manama : Bahrain yesterday marked the 45th anniversary of its accession to the UN and the 17th anniversary of HM King’s accession to the Throne by renewing its pledge to protect the region and its people from all forms of terrorist activities. 

Addressing the nation at Sakhir Palace yesterday, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa said that Bahrain prides itself in joining and contributing to all the Gulf and international military and security alliances to protect the region and the Arab and Islamic surroundings from all types of terrorism.

“Our commitment will remain the hallmark of our robust relations with the international community, and will not hesitate to honour that pledge whatever the sacrifices,” affirmed King Hamad.

Saluting the bravery and paying tribute to the sacrifices of all those who remained loyal and fell for the nation, His Majesty the King further stressed that “their stances will always shine in our history.”

Emphasising protection of rights and freedom and the respect of the law as the bases for the steadiness and stability of the state, HM King reminded that the anniversary is an opportunity to renew pledges of loyalty, allegiance and commitment to reforms and values that promote co-existence. 

The celebrations which marked the anniversary of the establishment of the modern state of Bahrain as an Arab and Muslim country in 1783 by its founder Ahmed Al-Fateh, the 45th Anniversary of its accession to the UN as a full member and the 17th Anniversary of HM the King’s Accession to the Throne was held in the presence of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. 

Earlier, on arrival at Sakhir Palace, HM the King was welcomed by National Guard Commander Lt General Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa and Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa.

On the occasion, HM the King conferred medals of appreciation on Essam Abdul Aziz-Chief of Protocol Crown Prince Court, Shaikh Rashid  bin Khalifa Al Khalifa-Undersecretary GDNPR, Moanes Al Mardi-President Bahrain Journalists Association, Kamal Ahmed-Minister of Transport and Telecommunication, Jameel Humaidan-Minister of Labour and Social Development and Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa-Head of FDPM Office.

Celebrations galore 

Meanwhile, thousands of revellers all across the nation, both nationals and expatriates, joined the festivities with vibrant activities.  

People spilled on to the streets, draped mostly in national colours, to enjoy the festivities, with vehicles  covered in the colours of the Bahrain flag and portraits of leaders. 

The mood was highly energetic with celebrations continuing throughout the day. 

Schools, ministries, cultural organisations, embassies, business organisations and governorates in the Kingdom joined the festivities,  spreading the message of peace, tolerance, co-existence and religious pluralism.
