Court fines lawyer

ManamaThe High Criminal Court has fined a lawyer BD100 for failing to represent his client – a murder-accused.

The lawyer was assigned to defend a Nigerian man accused of killing a Bahraini man while they were admitted at the Bahrain Psychiatric Hospital.

The murder  is supposed to have taken place at around 5:30 in the morning on June 7, 2016 . A nurse, who tried to save the victim was also attacked.

The other nurses in the hospital arrived and controlled the man.

They tried to revive the victim, but he was eventually declared dead after  25-minute-long-rescue efforts.

“The defendant was facing huge mental pressure, and avoided everybody. He even tried to commit suicide on multiple occasions,” a nurse serving in the hospital told prosecutors.

She also added that the condition of the defendant had improved over time.

The defendant was sent to the hospital after he got implicated in a robbery case, where he was caught stealing mobiles from a hotel in which he was served as a security man.

A medical panel which probed the incident eventually announced the defendant wasn’t having major mental disorders and was aware of everything.
