Remembering fallen soldiers

Manama : Bahrainis yesterday came together to pay tribute to the countless number of servicemen who fell defending the Kingdom’s soil, on the occasion of the Commemoration Day.

The Commemoration Day, which reflects the distinguished position enjoyed by the fallen servicemen in the hearts of the kingdom’s leaders and citizens, is observed on every December 17 as per an order issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Various activities were held in the Kingdom to commemorate the occasion, which also coincided with the National Day and the Anniversary of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s Accession’s to the Throne.

The ceremony held at the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) began with profound addresses by Royal Guard Commander, Brigadier-General HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Royal Guard’s Special Force, Major HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

In his speech, Shaikh Nasser saluted the late servicemen stressing that their courage and bravery will remain engraved in the nation’s memory.

“They gave their lives while defending the soil of this land and to reinforce the structure of modern Bahrain, founded by the late Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa,” said Shaikh Khalid stressing that “their sacrifices will remain as a timeless memory for the future generations to learn”.

While remembering the servicemen who gave their lives in Yemen, Shaikh Khalid said he was honoured to serve beside them.

In a statement, marking the day, The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) highlighted that the day reflects the distinguished position enjoyed by the fallen servicemen in the hearts of the Kingdom’s leaders and citizens.

The NIHR praised HM King’s initiative to allocate   December 17 as a day to commemorate the sacrifices of Bahrain’s fallen servicemen.

Extending warmest condolences to the families of the fallen servicemen, NIHR, in its statement, stressed that Bahrain’s leadership and people will never forget their sacrifices.

Meanwhile, The Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) marked the Day with the participation of children from the Royal Charity Organisation (RCO).

On the occasion, children planted seedlings in the Bahrain National Museum’s Darseen Café garden and made cards in tribute for the servicemen.
