Duo jailed for impersonating police officers
Manama : Two men have been jailed by the High Criminal Court for impersonating undercover police officers. The Court handed the first defendant three years and the second one five years behind bars.
The defendants allegedly used their disguise to kidnap and rob a Bangladeshi man employed as a security officer at a building. They stole two mobile phones and BD122.
“While I was on duty, a black car with three men in it, pulled up in front of the building,” the victim told prosecutors.
“Two men got down and told me they were undercover agents. They asked me if I had a valid visa.”
When the victim asked them to produce credentials to prove they were officers, they dragged him and tried to push him into the car, court files say .
“One of them dragged me towards the car and tried to push me into it. When I tried to resist, the second man hit me from behind. Both of them dragged me into their vehicle and drove off.”
“They continued assaulting me inside the car and then dumped me after stealing my two mobile phones and BD122,” he said.
The were tried and charged with robbery, abduction and impersonating police officers.
