Bribery: Jail inmate, accomplice get three years in prison
Manama : The High Criminal Court has sentenced an inmate and his friend to three years in prison for attempting to bribe a police officer with BD18,000 and a car in exchange of smuggling drugs into the jail.
The duo were put on trial on charges of attempting to bribe a cop after the officer rejected their offer and informed the police about them.
According to court files, the police officer was contacted by the second man who offered to give him a vehicle in return for smuggling the drugs to the inmate. The police officer initially said he would think about it, prompting the second defendant to increase the reward to include also BD18,000.
However, the officer informed his superiors about the bribe attempt, and he was told to pretend accepting it. A sting operation was eventually carried out, and the second defendant was arrested red-handed, trying to give the drugs to the police officer. The man told prosecutors that he had received instructions from the inmate to bribe the officer.
