Bahrain's Telecom a game changer

Manama : The telecom market of Bahrain is one of the vibrant in the region with excellent penetration rate and a subscriber base of 2.5 million, said a leading mobile technology service provider.

mCarbon, a supplier of airtime advance and credit, which currently has its Middle Eastern headquarters in Dubai, said, “Bahrain is a key market for us and we are looking at launching our services soon after the discussions with the local telecom operators.”

Announcing expansion plans, Founder and CEO, mCarbon, Rajesh Razdan said mCarbon is now looking at Bahrain and aims to add further value to the telecom industry network here.

“We are looking at launching our services soon after discussions with the local telecom operators,” he said adding, “We are here to add value to the services offered by the telecom operators and on the other hand it will help all the prepaid customers as well.”

mCarbon said its key value proposition in usage and revenue category is the ‘Airtime Advance and Credit’ service.

Explaining, Sabri Amireh, Executive Vice President, mCarbon said the services allows customers to request a talk-time or data or a value added service advance from the operator, thus generating incremental minutes of usage in the network.

Amireh also pointed out that the region is currently witnessing an accelerating technology migration to higher speed networks and smartphones, facilitated by operator investments to extend network coverage.

“As per reports, by 2020, mobile broadband connections in GCC will reach just under 350 million and represent almost 70 per cent of the total connection base,” he said.

The company has already implemented its technology in India and Bangladesh, Amireh said adding that the business need for ‘Instant credit service’ was to create new revenue opportunities from existing low ‘average revenue per user’ subscriber base.

With 8 million transactions a day, the product touches almost 400 million subscriptions every month, the statement said.
