White, Naemi set new world records

Manama : Gary White and Mahana Naemi set a pair of new World records to highlight a spectacular second round in the 2016/2017 Bahrain Drag Racing Championship-Arabian Pro Series, hosted this weekend by Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.

Both World records were registered on qualifying night last Thursday during heated competition in the Pro Mod category.

White of Bahrain’s E Kanoo Racing Team set a new import World record with their GT86 car. The American star had a pass of 5.753 seconds at 402kph and Naemi of Al Anabi Racing Team from Qatar then broke the World record (3.668s, 327.69kph) in a Pro Nitrous car.

Despite both achievements, it was Mustafa Al Atat who was the last man standing as the Pro Mod battles came to a close on Friday. Al Atat (3.730, 320.44) topped the podium ahead of Lizzy Musi (4.240, 206.91) in the Pro Mod category’s final run.

In the semi-finals, Al Atat defeated E Kanoo Racing’s Khaled Mohammed, while Musi joined him in the final after beating Bader  Korshid. 

Others competing but losing out in the quarter-finals were Khalil Al Ansari, Khalid Al Belooshi and round one winner Steve Jackson both of Bahrain1Racing, and Naemi. White did not make it through from qualifying.

Al Atat (3.925, 312.15) came away with a fantastic double after winning the Outlaw 10.5 class as he beat Yousuf Mohammed Al Ali by just a hundredth of a second, even though Al Ali was quicker at 316.24kph, but Atat had the better of their reaction times.

E Kanoo Racing Team had twice the reason to celebrate after star drivers Khaled Mohammed and Gary White both made up for their Pro Mod misfortunes with victories in other categories.

In the Super Street V8, Mohammed (4.111, 319.93) beat Turki Al Humedi (4.157) and White (7.757, 210.23) was triumphant in the Outlaw 6-Cylinder class as Mohammed Zain Alabden did not register a time.

In the Street V8 category, Bahraini star Salah Salahuddin (7.689, 280.44) triumphed over Jalil Kareem (8.130, 263.88).
