GPIC symbol of Gulf cooperation: Dr. Jawahery
Manama : The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has become a symbol of successful Gulf Cooperation, thanks to the right approach and strategic planning, said GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery.
Dr Jawahery, while addressing the celebrations held on the occasion of the company’s 37th Annual Day, said this has reinforced GPIC’s position as one of the most advanced industrial companies in the region.
GPIC was established on December 5, 1979 as a joint venture for the manufacture of fertilisers and petrochemicals between three countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Government of Bahrain, the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) and the Petrochemical Industries Company of Kuwait are the joint equal owners of the project.
The celebrations at the Ritz Carlton Hotel was held under the patronage of National Oil and Gas Authority Secretary General and Company Chairman Dr. Ahmed Al Sharyan. The company’s achievements in 2016 were reviewed during the celebrations.
Conveying the greetings of Dr. Al Sharyan, who is abroad on official work, Dr. Jawahery said GPIC had achieved more than 24,901,727 million working hours without a lost time accident, which was equivalent to 5,365 workdays.
He cited co-operation by the Labour Union and the professionalism of the employees along with their one-family spirit as the reasons for the success.
On the manufacturing front, Dr. Jawahery said, GPIC was able to produce 702,000 tonnes of Urea by the end of this year, the highest annual production since its inception.
GPIC was also able to achieve a total production of 1,615,321 tons, which exceeded last year’s production by 123,154 tons, or a percentage increase of 8 percent.
A number of former Board members and long serving employees, who made significant contributions during their tenure, were honoured on the occasion. A gala dinner later concluded the ceremony. Members of the Executive Management, Labour Union Chairman, employees, workers and retirees participated.
