Traffic hotline reports 12000 calls in a month

ManamaThe traffic hotline (199) at the General Directorate of Traffic received 12000 calls last month, according to Director of Operations and Monitoring of the General Directorate of Traffic. Half of the calls received were to inform about the illegal parking in Kingdom, he said.

“The number of complaints about wrong parking is high because many drivers don’t care to park their cars in allocated zones and park in private parking lots of houses and companies,” he said adding that the hotline is only to receive accidents and general inquiries should be sent to Traffic@gdt.gov.bh .

“Initially the directorate calls the violator asking him/her to remove the car. In some cases the directorate has to make more than one call as some drivers change their telephone number,” he said.

He also called upon drivers to follow the rules and avoid hindering the interests of other drivers or road users.
