Top UN honour for Dr. Jawahery

Manama : The Regional Network For Social Responsibility has named Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery as United Nations Ambassador to promote its Sustainable Development Goals.

The honour, in recognition of his efforts to spread a culture of social responsibility, especially among businesses, came during the Oman International Conference on Social Responsibility in the City of Salalah. 

The event was held under the patronage of Omani Public Authority for Craft Industries President and International Social Responsibility Ambassador Sheikha Ayesha bint Khalfan Al Siyabiah. Dr. Jawahery was also awarded the 2016 Gold Award for Sustainable Development during the event, from December 20 to 22.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jawahery thanked the Network Management and said the honour would give him new impetus to make more efforts in the field. 

Highlighting the importance of corporate social responsibility as a key business concept, Dr. Jawahery said it allows companies to make more contributions that serve the interests of their communities.

In this regard, Dr. Jawahery also urged more efforts to develop new styles of interaction with the community, especially keeping the disadvantaged groups in the focus. He said the success in this endeavour would be a big step forward in maintaining security and stability in Arab societies.

Speaking about GPIC’s strategic plan in the field of social responsibility, Dr. Jawahery said that the company considers it as one of the most important elements of its success. 

He said GPIC is keen to allocate a fixed budget to support various needs of the community, as well as volunteer services that encourage members to serve the local, regional and global community.

Network Chairman Professor Yusuf Abdul Ghaffar congratulated Dr. Jawahery and said the network’s honour was awarded to Dr. Jawahery for his efforts in the areas of social responsibility and sustainable development and in recognition of his role in promoting the use of the green technology in company operations.
