2000 passengers affected by Bahrain runway closure due to fog

Manama: At least 2000 passengers were affected by the sudden closure of runway at Bahrain International Airport in the wee hours of this morning due to heavy fog, which caused poor visibility, according to a statement from Bahrain Airport Company.

“Due to low visibility experienced at Bahrain International Airport between 21:20 on 26th December to 04:30hrs on 27th of December 2016, departing flights operations were suspended while a number of arriving flights were diverted to other regional airport.Approximately 2000 passengers were impacted by the runway closure; however BAC along with its Airport partners took the necessary measures to address the disruption to passenger’s delayed flights” said Bahrain Airport Company CEO Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah In response to a query from DT News.

He also added: “Flights have resumed and the runway was opened for all departing and arriving flights with first flight landing at 05:00. We would like to advise all passengers to contact their Airlines to reconfirm new flight details.”
