Workers demand payment of dues

ManamaEmployees of Baisan International Hotel here are sore over non-payment of their dues by Ramee Group, the hotel’s former management.  At least 65 employees of the hotel are denied the final settlement dues by the former management, alleged former employees of Ramee Group.

The hotel, which was run by the Ramee Group till October 2016, is now under a new management.  The Ramee Group had assured the employees before the management changed hands that their full and final settlement dues will be paid as soon as possible, but until today they have not received their rightful final settlement dues, say employees of the hotel.

According to sources, the employees had signed a document with Ramee Group by which the former management was bound to pay the final settlement dues by October 10, 2016. But the employees have not received any money yet.

The employees, who are associated with the Baisan International Hotel under the management of Ramee for decades, is now working under a new contract and a new management.

“I have been working here for the past eight years as security chief. I even worked overtime because I considered the company as my second home. Now, when I try reaching Ramee Group officials they are not responding,” said a visibly upset Hussain Abdul Al Yazeed, a Bahrain national.

“I am financially broke and unable to approach the court. I cannot afford to fight a potentially lengthy and costly legal battle with no money in hand,” said an exasperated Mohammed Thandankoli who works as Shisha Man in the hotel.

“As per the law, employees are entitled to get all their benefits. I think, they should file a case against the management in the Labour court. We have a very strong labour law and I am confident that they will get justice,” said a financial advisor.

“We were their trustworthy employees and working with them was inspiring. But now, the situation has changed. We have to now fight for our rightful settlement dues,” said Maria Kristina who has been working for eight years as F&B supervisor at the hotel.
