Appeals court upholds ruling in theft case

ManamaThe High Criminal Appeals Court has upheld the jail sentence issued against a maid accused of pocketing valuables from her former sponsor.

The Ethiopian woman was previously handed down six months behind bars, and she will be deported once she completes her jail time.

The woman is said to have initially served for a Bahraini family and then another family requested her services. However, she moved to the new house with gold that weren’t in line with her financial status. Thus, the new sponsor informed her former employer, who confirmed that these were belonging to his daughter and wife. The woman, however, denied any wrongdoing, stating that the pieces in her possession were, in fact, thrown by the family and she collected them. She was held guilty of theft.
