Kingdom’s first new year baby was born at 12:01am

ManamaIt’s always a race to be first baby born in the New Year. 

While the Kingdom was immersed in celebrations yesterday, a Bangladeshi woman rang in the New Year by welcoming a baby boy – Bahrain’s first New Year baby one minute past midnight at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) yesterday.

“A Bangladeshi woman delivered the Bahrain’s first newborn in 2017 who weighed 2.830kg at the time of the delivery, the Health Ministry said in its statement.

A Pakistani woman gave birth to the second child of the new year 12 minutes later (12:13am), while the third child of 2017 (01:47) was delivered by a Bahraini woman in Jidhafs Maternity Hospital, the Ministry added.

“The second and third were weighing 3.250kg and 2.985kg respectively and all the three were very healthy,” the statement stated. 

The ministry also revealed that the government hospitals in the Kingdom  witnessed the birth of 9677 children in 2016, including 6518 in SMC alone.
