GCC condemns prison attack
Manama : The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) yesterday strongly condemned the armed attack carried out by a group of gunmen against a reform and rehabilitation center in Bahrain on Sunday killing security officer and wounding another.
GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani said that the GCC member states have strongly condemned this attack as a heinous terrorist act, and expressed support for Bahrain for actions taken to ensure security and safety of its citizens. He expressed deep condolences and sympathy to the relatives of the martyred security man and to the Minister of the Interior and the people of Bahrain, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured security man.
The UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia also condemned the terror act.
Expressing the UAE’s solidarity with Bahrain to confront such cowardly acts, Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, condemned the terror attack. Shaikh Abdullah expressed his full confidence that such terror attacks will not discourage Bahrain and its people from maintaining the Kingdom’s stability and tackling desperate terrorists’ attempts at causing sabotage and violence.
“Kuwait stands side-by-side with Bahrain in all measures it is taking to maintain its security and stability,” Kuwait cabinet said in a statement after its customary weekly meeting yesterday.
Rejecting terrorism in all forms and manifestations, Oman’s Foreign Ministry said that the Sultanate considered this terrorist attack as sinful and objectionable.
The Foreign Ministry of Qatar issued a statement reiterating Qatar’s solidarity with Bahrain and backing all measures to confront such abominable acts and protect national security and stability. In the statement, which was posted on Qatar News Agency, the ministry sought to identify the perpetrators and bring them before justice.
Labour federation
Bahrain’s Free Labour Unions Federation (Al Hurr) also strongly condemned the attack. Al Hurr offered its condolences and sympathy to the government and to the family of the fallen policeman who gave his life in defending national security and became a symbol for everyone who defends citizens’ right to enjoy a secure living.
The Federation reiterated its unflinching supportive stance with State in the face of terrorists and their financiers and backers in their attempts to destabilize Bahrain’s security, stressing its full support for the efforts of the Ministry of the Interior in the fight against terrorism and extremism.
The Federation demanded the civil society to stand in solidarity with State to tackle the scourge of terrorism that is infesting the Arab world, calling on international organizations to condemn the heinous crime. Al Hurr urged the citizens to cooperate with security agencies to achieve security and stability, stressing the need to unite against terrorists and criminals by various means.
