Local IMMAF medalist fighting in Bahrain

Manama : KHK MMA CEO Mohammed Shahid has announced that an amateur MMA event will be held in Bahrain under the ‘Bahrain vs India’ Amateur MMA Championship banner on January 12. 

The move follows similar events to support and enhance the Amateur MMA scene and athletes.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the founder of KHK MMA made his amateur debut last April in an event that had some of the best Indian amateurs square off with Bahrain’s top amateurs and won his fight in under 12 seconds!

Shaikh Khalid will return to the cage, competing in a lightweight matchup against Indian fighter Manish Kumar. Remarkably, after having cornered Hussein Mahdi Maki Ayyad at the 2015 IMMAF European Open Championship, Shaikh Khalid and Hussein will now be fighting on the same fight card at home.

Hussein was the Bahrain MMA fighter to bring a medal home after representing Bahrain in Birmingham, raising the flag on the podium!

He went on to compete in the 2016 IMMAF Worlds where he came short in the opening round. In that same event though, Bahraini bantamweight prospect Fahad Abdulrazaq also made history, bringing Bahrain the first ever bronze medal in a world championship.
