Robbing Man; Court rejects appeals of duo

Manama : Two Pakistani men accused of robbing a jewellery shop owner of BD8000 has had their appeals rejected.

According to court files, the incident occurred in Manama and the defendants attacked the owner as he was leaving the shop with a bag containing the money.

The first defendant was reportedly the mastermind of the crime who planned to carry out the robbery in a narrow alley that the victim was using to reach his car.

The duo with another man are said to have kept tabs on their 55-year-old victim for almost five days without knowing that their movements were recorded by a CCTV camera installed in the area.

For five days I was surveying him. I found he  left his shop everyday in the afternoon and he used an alley not frequented by many to return home,” the first defendant told prosecutors.

“We pounced on him as soon as he entered the alley,” he added.

The defendants are said to have divided the stolen amount equally, but they were eventually arrested after police reviewed the footage captured by the CCTV camera.

They were earlier handed down five years behind bars, followed by immediate deportation.

The third man was earlier sentenced to five years in prison, but was freed as he had the privilege to a Royal pardon.
