Battle of the Sexes: Women dominate

Manama : Ariette Paul (44 points) stole the show and two points clear of second placed Abdulla Al Qutami (42), at Awali Golf Club a different kind of Stableford competition played under the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ title.

Phil Trueblood (41) clinched third place,  Ahmed Al Noaimi (39) and Hamad Fares Al Qutami (38) grab fourth and fifth place respectively.

With Paul leading the way, the team result was a clear win for the ladies with an average Stableford score by 34 to 30. But the gents would have been victorious score 30 to 29. The ladies not used the Council Of National Golf Unions (CONGU) regulated five shot enhancement. To make competition fair, an extra level of difficulty was added to the ladies, to balance that suffered by the gents playing on the more difficult Championship course.

The Handicaps and Competitions Committee decided that ladies would play from the front tees with scoring using the gents card, this meaning their handicaps did not receive a five shot enhancement which is normal for mixed competitions at Awali.

CONGU approved software was used to administer scores and handicaps, but the software refused to ‘ladies play using the gents card’ so the ladies played with their card and their normal five shot enhancement.

After play, Handicaps and Competitions member Paul Anderson presided on giving 60 prizes away.
