The Hunt Begins
Manama : The third edition of the Bahrain Falcon and Hunting Tournament commenced yesterday at the Bahrain International Endurance Village bringing together falconers from all over Bahrain.
This year the competition features over 402 falcons owned by Bahrainis compared to the 300 falcons in the last year’s competition.
The tournament was inaugurated by HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of West Asian Athletics Federation and President of Bahrain Athletics Association. He was deputised by HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.
According to Khalifa Al Quood, the Supreme Organising committee head, the competition sponsored by Shaikh Nasser will continue until February 18, 2017.
The opening ceremony was attended by Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Deputy President of Bahrain Supreme Council for Environment and President of Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation as well as by several members from the Royal Family.
The first week of the event will be for Shaikh Faisal bin Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup and Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup, both of whom are the sons of Shaikh Khalid.
“This event has proved its success not only at the local level, but also at the GCC level, thanks to the intense competition and large number of participants,” said Shaikh Khalid.
He also praised the efforts exerted by Shaikh Nasser to revive and maintain traditional sports, as per the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, focusing on bolstering Bahrain’s authentic and genuine heritage and values.
Commenting on the various competitions held on the sidelines of the event, Shaikh Khalid said, “We are keen on sponsoring several competitions as part of the event, including the launch of Khalid bin Hamad Cup for owner of falcons from Bahrain and GCC states to support Shaikh Nasser’s efforts in developing the sport.”
