Shop owner arrested for forgery

Manama : A stationery shop owner in the Kingdom who has been selling forged documents to customers for money, has been busted by an undercover agent.

The man who was arrested,  reportedly forged sick leave documents, salary slips and other documents for his customers to obtain loans, bank statements and Ministry seals.

After receiving information that the man, in his mid thirties, was forging official documents for money, the General Directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security kept him on tabs.

An agent managed to trick the suspect by going undercover and posing as a customer. Officers arrested the man as he was handing over the forged documents.

“The probe revealed that the suspect forged documents to be presented to government organisations, banks and companies. He also forged salary slips for people to obtain bank loans. He  had many Bahraini clients and was arrested as he was forging a number of documents for a decoy customer,”  a report in Interior Ministry’s publication Al Amn read.

“The suspect confessed to the crime and said he started forging documents recently to supplement his family income. The first document he forged was a sick leave note for his brother in school. He said that he was tempted to continue after that forged document was accepted,” the report read.

The man has been  referred to the public prosecution.
