BIC to host National Race Day
Manama : Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) will host the latest edition of National Race Day on Friday, featuring three popular racing series.
A packed programme awaits fans with some of the best drivers and motorbike riders from across the region taking to the tarmac in Sakhir.
They will be battling it out in the third rounds of the 2016/2017 seasons 2,000cc Challenge, the Bahrain Superbikes Championship (BSBK) and the Bahrain Motorcycle Racing (BMR) 600, with racing on BIC’s 2.55-kilometre Inner Track.
This 2,000cc Challenge is one of the longest-running championships in the Gulf, professionally organised and featuring some of the top racers in two-litre cars. Modifications are limited to ensure an even playing field. Tim Birkin and Hussain Karimi are among those to look out for as they share honours with a victory apiece in the second round. Shaikh Salman bin Isa bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa being the defending champion is another driver to look out.
Defending champion Mishal Alneaimi, who has won all four races held so far this season.
The Qatari’s dominant run stretches back to last season, which he finished undefeated en route to claiming the title.
In the BMR 600, it is divided into two categories. They are Superstock Series and the Hornet Series. The Hornets class participants will be in identical 600cc Honda Hornet bikes.
Motorsport fans are invited and tickets are available at the venue at BIC’s Welcome Centre. Ticket fares are BD2 for adults and BD1 for children.
The BSBK gets underway at 9.50am with Practice. Qualifying will then be held from 12.20pm, setting the stage for race one at 1.57pm and race two at 3.38pm.
