Couple jailed for death of 3-month-old
Manama : A couple accused of causing the death of a three-month old boy has been jailed by the High Criminal Court on January 9.
The baby’s 21-year-old stepmother (a GCC national) was handed down three years in prison while the 28-year-old father received seven years behind bars.
According to court files, the victim’s father, a Bahraini citizen of Arab origin, married the co-defendant and later tied the knot with his cousin who was the mother of the baby. After they got divorced, the baby remained in the custody of the father and stepmother.
One day the baby was taken to a hospital with vomiting due to head injuries. He succumbed to his wounds four days later.
The father told the police that his wife had told him that the baby fell on his head.
However, she gave a different account of what happened saying that the father punched on the baby’s head to stop him crying.
A forensic report, however, confirmed that the baby suffered a fatal physical attack on the head which resulted in the death.
