Bahrain worker dies of heart attack

ManamaAn Asian labourer died near Nuwaidrat yesterday while participating in a strike along with coworkers, demanding for their delayed wages.

The man reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest while protesting on Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah Highway in the southeastern parts of the Capital Governorate.

The man, identified as Indian national Narayanan Pitchai, 50, suffered a cardiac arrest while protesting with his colleagues at around 11:40 am.

“He suddenly collapsed while marching on the road,” a source informed.

The dead body is kept in Salmaniya Medical complex morgue. Interior Ministry informed that Southern Police took necessary steps.

Southern Governorate Police Director General Colonel Mubarak Abdulla Al Merri confirmed in a statement that the “Asian worker died due to natural causes”.

He added that the man passed away before the ambulance could reach the scene and that the Public Prosecution was notified as per the necessary legal procedures.

Social Worker Subair Kannur said relatives and associated people are carrying forward all the necessary arrangements needed to send the body of the deceased to India as soon as possible.

DT News learnt that around 100 workers of G.P Zachariades Overseas Limited protested yesterday for not receiving their wages for around two months.

“Those protesting were the ones living in the company’s labour camps in Riffa and Eker. They were not paid for around two months. They demanded to go back to their countries. The company has solved the matter with them and promised to pay them and send whoever wants to leave back. In fact, 20 of them were repatriated yesterday,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added.
