Bahrain urges to stop violence against Rohingya Muslims
Manama : The Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar, which is denied its fundamental and internationally-recognized rights, is facing inhumane treatment in detention camps, said Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri, Assistant to the Foreign Affairs Minister, at the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Kuala Lumpur.
Expressing Bahrain’s concerns over the situation of Rohingya Muslims, he said the community was forced displacement and expulsion to live as refugees in neighbouring countries, denying access to humanitarian assistance.
The meeting was held under the patronage of the Malaysian Prime Minister, Mohammad Najib Abdul Razak.
Al Doseri said the Muslims are facing several challenges - miseries, displacement and refugee problems across the globe and pointed out that the Rohingya’s issue is one of these challenges.
He added that the continuation of Rohingya crisis without practical settlement on the ground is unacceptable and represents a challenge to the international community at large and the OIC in particular.
Al Doseri urged the OIC to device mechanisms that ensure the protection and care to the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar and step up efforts in coordination and cooperation with the international community to end this human tragedy.
He urged to exert pressure on the Myanmar government to end all kinds of violence against the Rohingya Muslim minority to enable them to live in peace and safety as the rest of Myanmar citizens.
Al Doseri also urged the Myanmar government to take immediate measures to stop the persisting deterioration of human rights situation in Rakhine State for years, and to amend its policies that violate all international norms.
He also urged the Myanmar government to take appropriate measures to prevent discrimination and violence based on religion or ethnic origin, to recognize the legitimate rights, and to ensure safety, peace, and rights to all segments of the society in order to bring stability and start creating a common coexistence ground among different and diverse religions, and sects.
