‘Mafia exploiting patients’
Manama : A mafia has taken control of the Bahraini pharmaceutical market, according to a lawmaker here.
Hoora and Gudaibiya Parliamentary Representative MP Adel Al Assoomy claimed that “the Bahraini pharmaceutical market is being controlled by a group of companies that are working as a mafia and monopolise the local market”.
“These companies waste over BD70 million of public money by manipulating the local medicines market,” Al Assoomy said stating that he has evidence to prove it.
Demanding the Government to immediately intervene, Al Assoomy claimed that “this mafia promote certain types of medicines and refuses to import generic medicines that are cheaper for consumers and is on high demand”.
The lawmaker said that the Representatives’ Council should take deterrent actions against these companies, which are exploiting Bahraini patients.
