British Club, Rugby set up Netball finale

ManamaTwo-time defending champions Rugby Club A and British Club A set-up the Group A finale next Tuesday in the final round-robin at the Dilmun Sports Club in Saar to decide the Group A and top division championship title following victories last night at the British Club in the DHL Bahrain Expatriate Netball League.

Rugby A defeated a plucky British Club B 15-5, which saw the winner take a 4-1 first quarter lead, extend it to 8-2 at half-time and go into the final quarter 11-3.

The players of the match were wing attack Sarah Hobday for Rugby and centre Charlotte Collinson for Brit Club.

In the other Group A match, British Club A fought hard to defeat Dilmun Club 17-13 after coming from behind in the first quarter after trailing 3-5 to level 9-9 at half time and go into the final quarter 14-10 ahead.

Players of the match were adjudged as goal keeper Merelda Verster for Brit Club and substitute Cayla Harris for Dilmun.

The battle for the Group B title featuring six teams is less clear cut as the six teams play also in the round-robin format over five rounds.

After two rounds, Dilmun Club B are the only side with two wins from two games as they edged out Sri Lanka Club 16-14 after leading 5-3 after the first quarter, then holding a 10-8 half time lead and going into the final quarter 13-11 ahead.

Players of this match were substitute Razan Al Mosawi for Dilmun and Kushi Nagawatta for Sri Lanka.

British Club C were 12-9 winners over Rugby Club B after having an early 5-2 advantage first quarter lead, then go into half time 7-3 up and 10-6 ahead after the final quarter.

Players of the match were goal defence Keerthana Lewis for Brit Club and substitute Imogen Sheradon for Rugby.

In the other Group B match, Dilmun C beat St Christopher’s 17-8 after trailing 1-2 after the first quarter, going 4-3 ahead at half time and the last quarter leading 8-4.

Players of the match were centre Ines Bermudez for Dilmun and goal keeper Vanessa Pollard for St Christopher’s.
